This North Vancouver addition renovation now offers plenty of natural light

Homeowners’ wished to add a master suite with a balcony view. The resulting North Vancouver home addition renovation to this bungalow is flooded with natural light and impressive sight lines. This North Vancouver home addition renovation allows for the original 1950’s architectural style to be retained, while finally providing the view they always knew was theirs to enjoy. The view is unobstructed, yet privacy is maintained, thanks to the angular design of the post and beam home.

THE OBJECTIVE

To create the addition of a master suite that ties in with the home’s 1950’s style angular architecture while providing homeowners the opportunity to enjoy their North Shore view.

HOW IT WAS ACHIEVED

The addition is engineered to be supported upon the existing structure without foundation reinforcements. Natural light and sight lines are optimized through an innovative angled floor plan treatment.

KEY FEATURES

This renovation enables views of the harbour, city or garden. The new master bedroom features clerestory windows that provide natural light to the bedroom while maintaining privacy.

A floating hidden-stringer staircase, crafted of solid mahogany, is accented by paired skylights. Light strips accentuate the tiled landing and all floors are heated.

1950’s stylized architecture is retained and modified throughout the home. Cantilever timbers permit a shaded, trellised balcony, with a view unobstructed by posts.
