THE OBJECTIVE

To enhance this urban townhome for a young growing family’s needs with renovation to main and top floors. Create crisp, minimalist aesthetic while enhancing connectivity and functionality. Re-configure upper level into adult oriented retreat with separate sleep and study areas.

HOW IT WAS ACHIEVED

Walls were removed to open the kitchen into a functional great space modernizing the living area and making it more interactive for monitoring their active toddler. Top level’s open room was converted into a master suite complete with sleek, luxurious yet comfortable, ensuite and walk-in closet. The illusion of a two-sided, floor to ceiling, fireplace unit provides connectivity, yet maintains the feeling of spaces separated for functions of sleep and study.

KEY FEATURES

The downtown Vancouver renovation features white Caesarstone countertop wrapping the expanded open kitchen with waterfall edge, creating overhang for accessible eating. Kitchen also features ‘touch-less’ cabinets, and white high gloss upper cabinets creating clean lines for ultimate contemporary style. Main level fireplace was re-positioned to create a central focal point and balance the overall layout. In-floor radiant and wall-fan heaters installed throughout eliminate clearable required by baseboard heaters and maximize furniture placement options.

Upper-level was reconfigured to a master suite; its major visual feature a two-sided fireplace – the floor to ceiling unit is wrapped in large format metallic glazed porcelain tile and is finished by a groutless mitred edge, creating a rich contemporary chic appeal. The unit provides connectivity, and the feel of multiple rooms.
