The task of preparing for a home renovation can seem like an ominous one, but with good planning between you and your renovator, you will prepare with a minimum of wasted effort.
You will have a list of question running through your head. How many of your things to be cleared out, and where are you going to put it all? What do you need to set aside for your continued use, and for how long? And exactly which rooms will be left untouched?
Furniture management may be a large task and a personal one. If you will be re-using your existing furniture, then off-site storage is the best answer. You could rent large storage bins which are brought to the property, loaded with your belongings and then removed to a secure facility. Another option is to use a public storage company.
I highly recommend that you not leave your furniture piled up in the garage or pushed into a corner. You may think this will save some time and money, but will put your furniture at risk of being damaged. Also, this can slow down the renovation if it is taking up work space, or has to be moved around during renovation. The work crews need space in order to work effectively.
