Open Concept Modernist Shaker Kitchen and Great Room

This modernist shaker kitchen and great room invite family gathering and cohesive living

This family wanted to open up the narrow uninviting living space they had nicknamed “the Bowling Alley” to join their kitchen and create a space to cook and enjoy each others’ company. This kitchen and great room are given an open concept design which transforms the narrow and uninviting living space. Once segregated, this single family home illustrates transitional space through connectivity of both kitchen and living area — an ideal social hub.

THE OBJECTIVE

Transform three, narrow, segregated rooms into open social hub for family who love to cook, entertain, and “hang out” together. Homeowners’ requested a large open concept white kitchen with a traditional type of fireplace surrounded with built-ins centered in living room.

HOW IT WAS ACHIEVED

The walls between kitchen, under-utilized dining-room, and narrow uninviting living-room (nicknamed “the Bowling Alley”) were removed. Kitchen and dining room combined into single culinary center with island/eating-bar. Cooking area enjoys view and connectivity to adjacent casual living/dining area. Engineered Maple hardwood flooring matched to existing hardwood and creates visual balance with new white cabinetry.

The TQ team took care of us from start to finish of our project. They paid close attention to the specifications, budget and timing of our project. TQ takes pride in their work. The end result speaks for itself.
