Whole House Renovation (full interior, exterior - deck, windows, doors)
Client requested a contemporary, clean, uncluttered and masculine aesthetic for this Burnaby home renovation. Design was driven by passion for cooking and entertaining. Desire for the enjoyment of a peaceful spa-like retreat, led to an ensuite design fused of modern & Asian styles; creating elegance thru a minimalist design approach.
The loved and solidly-built but dated home was made open-concept with a seamless flow between indoor/outdoor spaces. Disconnected kitchen, family-room, and eating-area were combined. The resulting great-room features central floor-to-ceiling, double-sided fireplace with walk-through access to kitchen on either side. Oversized ensuite rivalling a luxury locker room with standalone tub and no-threshold walk-through shower (with bench seat & full height tiling) accessed from either side of single floor-to-ceiling frameless-glass panel.
Great-room’s two-sided fireplace floats in floor-to-ceiling concrete finished porcelain tile surround. Visual separation between cooking and lounging area achieved.
Existing narrow rear deck is expanded to allow for the kitchen-access to barbecue area; and glass-covered pergolas allow for year-round use.
Built-in beverage/coffee station, warming drawer, and flush-mount microwave (in-island) accessible from patio or kitchen: ideal when entertaining.
Two skylights carefully cut into original cedar-lined cathedral ceiling over the kitchen island increase natural light.
Commercial grade engineered oak flooring is durable & low-maintenance; it’s black-lacquered, (wire-brushed and white-washed) finish creates visual continuity throughout main floor creates rich textural element and enhances sense of openness.
Laundry features roll-up garage door concealing the machines – accessed without hallway encroachment, visually consistent with clean masculine theme.

It’s changed the way I live… I had this huge house, but really only used three rooms… I now live in the whole home compared to just 20 percent of it.- Guy, Burnaby Homeowner
