KEY FEATURES

Every room incorporates multiple tones/shades of colour to create cohesive, highly textured layering. Chocolate stained mahogany millwork at pantries and fireplace feel warm and inviting – a pleasing visual contrast with the kitchen’s “bright-white” palette. A major challenge in the building process was overcome by the install of a 17 foot horizontal beam, allowing the widening of the door to den, concealed by innovative floating back-to-back cabinets (accessible in den and kitchen) that provide much needed storage to both spaces.

The kitchen’s 9-foot island features a cantilevered over-hang, supported by a single metal column, creating roomy seating. High-end Statuaria granite adds rich dramatic texture and a unifying element between the rooms by its use in the kitchen counter and den fireplace surround. The dated ‘sunshine ceiling is eliminated, but bright task lighting retained through the installation of multi-LED lighting.

Pure luxury is created in the ensuite by a limestone wave-texture feature wall, triple wall-mount sconces on a full-mirrored vanity, and heated-tile bench in the shower. The L-shaped shower/tub combination (with frame-less glass door) allows access from either section; water cascades from shower to tub without spilling onto floor. Cutting edge angularity of new finishings are tempered by the use of gently muted colour palette and double sinks allow for ‘territorial harmony’.

The home’s new grand entrance with 11-foot Douglas Fir front door, flanked in custom ‘forest by the sea motif’ art glass panels and a 3.5 foot dome chandelier, make a bold statement of welcome.

THE OBJECTIVE

To re-configuration the home’s interior to deliver increased storage needs and updated design, without affecting the existing footprint.

HOW IT WAS ACHIEVED

This ‘no-nonsense’ design was created to feel open and contemporary, ideal for the home baker who requires lots of easily accessed working surfaces, as well as appliance and supply storage. Clutter-reducing considerations were a high priority and components that provide convenience are utilized at every opportunity. Sight lines of the adjoining space are taken into consideration in the placement of built-in storage, fireplace, and television niche, in order to keep clean visual continuity.
